Area supporters rally
for Feingold
SPOONER, March 23, 2006—In response to
a fundraising visit by Republican National Committee Chairman
Ken Mehlman and state chairman Rick Graber, over 65 area Feingold
supporters gathered for a rally at the Northwest Sports Center,
where Mehlman mixed with local Republicans at a $1,000-a-head
cocktail party. Feingold supporters gathered in response to
the launching of a new ad campaign targeting Feingold for his
effort to censure President Bush.
"This is a chance to send the message
back to the President and his party that Russ Feingold is not
alone—the people of Wisconsin stand with him," stated
Jerry Schlei of Cumberland, one of the event's organizers. Many
of the picketers carried signs that said, "We trust Russ,"
"Stop attacking Feingold," and "Bush broke the
law."
Schlei, a Democrat, added that Republicans
are feeling very threatened by Feingold's stand against President
Bush's abuses of power both abroad and here at home.
The RNC ad campaign against Senator Feingold
began airing this week in Wisconsin media markets.
