Ziegler declared winner by Associated Press

Two hours after the polls closed, the Wisconsin State Journal called the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice in favor of the corporate-backed candidate:

The bitter and costly race between Linda Clifford and Annette Ziegler for a 10-year term on the Wisconsin Supreme Court was coming to its conclusion Tuesday night as Ziegler maintained healthy lead.

The Associated Press declared Ziegler the winner at 10 p.m. Ziegler led Clifford, 60 percent to 40 percent, with about 51 percent of the vote counted.

Clifford enjoyed a healthy lead in Dane County, 37,833 to 22,763, at 9:30 p.m.

Clifford enjoyed the support of a range of Democratic and Republican backers, including U. S. Senator Russ Feingold and former governor Lee Dreyfus, a Republican.
