NUE Building, Rice Lake


The meeting was called to order by Chairman Cecil Kippenhan, with 23 present.

Jason Rae and Marlene Rather were thanked for filling in for our secretary during her absence.

Secretary's Minutes were read by Jason Rae. Minutes were approved as read by Clarice Fall and seconded by Jason Gillette.

Treasurer's Report was read by Marlene Raether in the absence of our treasurer. Marlene also read a thank you note from the Cameron food shelf. Jason Rae moved to accept the Treasurer's Report as read; a second was from Jason Gillette.

Cecil reminded us of the 7th District Convention in Stevens Point on May 1st and the State Convention on June 11th and 12th in Appleton.

Clarice reported that the Court House was moving today, and the prisoners are due to come soon.

Marge Bunce from Senator Kohl's office presented us with Handbooks for our use and comment sheets she would like to have filled out to present to the Senator. She invited all to have breakfast at the State Convention with Senator Kohl.

Jason Rae moved we have a Democratic rally in Barron County on August 28th, there was a second by Jason Gillette. A committee has been formed to discuss this fund raiser. Judy Ferber has agreed to head this committee.

Mary Hubler reported she has checked with the Fairgrounds on renting the Youth Bldg. there . The price would be $250 plus $60 for insurance $25 for the kitchen, and the price of beer and a licensed bartender.

The possibility of using several other locations was discussed.

Judy Ferber was nominated to head up the rally.

Janet and Steve Schleppegrell to facilitate publicity and entertainment. Toby to find a place and be in charge of cleaning.

Sandy will contact members in search of crafters, and will contact nearby counties to inform and invite.

A tribute to Dave Obey is needed for the 7th District Convention, Cecil will cover that.

Next meeting May 20th in Barron, June 17th meeting tentative as to location Toby will check and inform us next month.

A sign up sheet was circulated to collect $5 per person to contribute to the Feingold campaign.

The dedication of the Justice Center is May 1 at 2oclock.

Ruth Young cautioned the membership, about a scam , with people calling and asking for your social security number under false pretenses in order to extort money from you
