Barron County Courthouse
The
meeting was called to order
by Chairman Cecil Kippenhan, with 32 people attending.
Secretary’s
report was given and approved as read.
Treasurer’s report was given and approved.
Old
Business:
Chairman Kippenhan
reported on the good turnout for the Chippewa County Jefferson
Jackson Day Dinner -94 people attended.
The Barron Co. dinner may be held in June or July, but no date
has been set yet.
Chairman Kippenhan
reported that our phone number will be listed as”Democratic
Party of Barron County” and will have the same number
as his phone number. The
Cost will be $9.10 per month.
The agenda for the
7th CD in Ashland, April 30, and those that will be attending
was
read by Chairman Kippenhan. He also reported on the great attendance
at the
Rice Lake Senior Center March 24, when Congressman Dave Obey
spoke about
Social Security.
The State Democratic
Convention will be held June 9 and 10 at the Park Plaza
Hotel in Oshkosh. Chairman Kippenhan read a list of those that
will be attending, and there is
room for four more people. If anyone is interested in attending,

Chairman Kippenhan
read a letter from the Rice Lake Dept. of Parks and Recreation
regarding
signs for advertising, the location of the signs, and the cost.
The issue of advertising was discussed
and no action taken.
Willie Williams
gave a report on “framing” the political agenda,
and he would be happy to attend
gatherings to present his information to anyone who would like
to learn more about it.
Laurie Broome also presented some information written by George
Lakoff and an article written
by former Democratic Senator Bill Bradley.
Steve Parliament
made a motion to form a Communications Committee. Volunteers
are Jerry
Schlei, Linda Thompson, Dee Taylor, Laurie Broome, Steve Parliament,
Marge Lindemann, and
Curt Collins, with Jerry Schlei as the chairman. The motion
was seconded by Jim Vogel.
Motion carried.
Jeff Buhrandt reported
on issues from Congressman Dave Obey’s office, and reported
that
Congressman Obey will be in Ashland, April 30, and he also invites
everyone to attend the State
Convention in June.
Dr. Fred Bannister
reported on the Health Care Resolution that will be presented
at the 7th CD and
at the state convention.
Co-chairman Jason
Rae reported on the many democratic functions he has recently
attended.
We had
a good discussion with Officer John Postle about the use of
metamphetamine in Barron Co.
New
Business:
Food items will
go to Cumberland this month.
The Sunshine Report
was given by Marlene Raether, and she also presented information
about a bus
trip to Madison May 11 to rally for the elderly. Contact Paula

Next month's meeting
will be held May 19 in the Friendship Room at the Rice Lake
Library.
