Barron County Courthouse
The
meeting was called to order
by chairman Jim Heerey with 13 members present.
The minutes of the
previous meeting were read by acting secretary Clarice Fall.
Cecil Kippenhan moved to approve as read, Marlene seconded.
Motion carried.
The treasurers report
was given by Betty Vogel John O’Brien moved to approve
as presented Jason seconded, motion carried
Betty Vogel reported
on the cost and net profit on the raffle.. the expenses were$168,00and
ticket sales were $167.00 so the net profit is about $19.00,
Question- is it worth the effort t? Discussion followed . question
came up as to the feeling toward advance purchase of the license
for the raffle for next summer. The license fee is $25.00. Cecil
moved that we go ahead and renew it now. O’Brien seconded.
Motion carried.
New
Business. Chairman Heerey reminded everyone of the
“Gala Event” in honor of and appreciation for all
that congressman Dave Obey has done for our area. This will
start with Social hour 5:00-6:00 Dinner served at 6:oo P.M.
at T.A.C. near Amery The sponsoring group has contacted Count
Clerk Fall to have someone give 3-5 minute talk on behalf of
Obey’s efforts and the grants that he has obtained for
Barron County. Clarice also reported that they had asked if
the Barron County Democrats would consider giving toward the
plaque that has been prepared and will be given to him at this
event. After some discussion Clarice moved and Cecil seconded
that we donate $15.00 toward the plaque.
Cecil
announced that he would be attending the parade in Cumberland
on Sunday and he needed volunteers to help distribute campaign
information.
Jason
Rae who had applied for a job as a Senate page on the floor
for Senator Kohl in Washington D.C. announced he had found out
on July 23rd that he had been accepted for the Fall semester.
He leaves on Friday morning and will live in a dorm across from
capital hill, He will attend school at 6:00 am every day and
have the afternoon to work for the senator. He will be there
until January 23rd. He also announced that in the past month
there were 244 visits to our website. Hopefully Jason will keep
up our website even if he is away. Jason has presented a resolution
that he drafted in response to conversation last month in regard
to the 4th amendment to the constitution, He read two different
versions of the same resolution. Cecil moved, and Harold Kringle
seconded that the second version be adopted, and forwarded to
the press.
A motion to adjourn
was made. The next meeting will be September 18th.
