The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kippenhan.

Jason Rae read the minutes from the April meeting. Tom Richie moved, and was second by John Banks, to approve the Secretary’s Report as presented. All present voting yes.

The Treasurer’s Report was read, stating that we have a balance on hand of $1,657.55. It was approved as read.

Those who attended the 7th Congressional District Convention in Ashland reported. Discussion then took place regarding the resolution that Barron County passed and what would happen next. Jason Rae, who serves on the State’s Platform and Resolution Committee, shared that until the resolutions are mailed to all delegates, we won’t know exactly what form the resolution will be in.

Beth Ager was thanked for her phenomenal job on the website.

Tom Richie reported on the possible fundraiser the Barron County Democrats would like to have. Ron Kind has stated that he would be willing to work with us. The committee will continue looking into this and report back.

Chairman Kippenhan read the names of those who are delegates to the upcoming State Convention. He then talked a little about what would be happening at this here Convention.

A thank you note from the Democratic Party of Wisconsin for our DLI contribution was read.

Jerry Schlei, chair of the Communications Committee, reported on the group's activities. He suggested doing more letter writing to newspapers. Jerry then asked what issues the committee should be focusing on. Those mentioned included health care, Women in Black, and the incinerator.

Steve Parliament and Laurie Broome shared a movie by George Lakoff on framing. Willie Williams then lead a small workshop on how to use the idea of framing.

Sheriff Richie reported on the sheriff’s department. He said that everything is going well. They just finished the state jail inspection.

It was decided that this month’s food contributions should go to the Chetek Food Pantry.

A small discussion of the fair booth occurred. We need to start thinking about that. The Communications Committee will look into ways to make it more active and inviting.

Chairman Kippenhan reminded everyone about the Democratic Party’s commitment to organized labor and suggested that we should help out the local Teamsters on strike anyway we possibly can.

Chairman Kippenhan also reported that the Better Way Club is having a fundraiser in Wausau on June 12th. The featured guest is Senator John Edwards.

The next meeting of the Barron County Democrats will take place on June 16th at the Barron County Courthouse.

Jerry Schlei motioned to adjourn, and was seconded by Jason Rae. All present voting yes. Meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM.
